Promoting Life-Long Physical Activity for People with Disability
Webinar
June 27 2:00pm - 3:00pm
This presentation will introduce various resources that are available for professionals, educators, volunteers, parents, and caregivers to help people with physical disability develop the foundational skills necessary to be physically active for life. An overview of the model developed by Canadian Sport for Life that provides a seven stage approach to the development of physical literacy, fundamental movement skills, overall motor skills and sport specific skills will be presented with emphasis on two additional stages, awareness and first contact/recruitment, that are unique to people with disability. The need for specialized training in disability sport will be discussed and the Certified Disability Sport Specialist program developed by BlazeSports America will be introduced as a method for increasing the capacity to provide safe and effective disability sport, recreation and physical activity programming in the school and community.
